Project Description
This dwelling has been carefully designed to meet PassivHaus standards, ensuring exceptional levels of sustainability, thermal performance, and energy efficiency. Its form and detailing respond sensitively to the local character of the area, while delivering a contemporary, environmentally conscious home.
The building is composed of a collection of simple, interrelated forms of varying heights and sizes. This composition breaks down the overall massing, creating a more human scale and an articulated roofscape that adds visual interest to the otherwise flat terrain. The façade features a combination of generous openings and punched window details, while overhangs provide solar shading and sheltered outdoor spaces, enhancing the building’s environmental responsiveness.
Materially, the home draws inspiration from the nearby market garden and horticultural structures. The primary wall finish will be stained, charred black timber cladding, chosen both for its natural durability and its ability to visually recess the building into the landscape. In contrast, the carport is designed as a lightweight timber structure, clad in treated softwood that will weather naturally to a soft silvery grey, referencing traditional agricultural outbuildings.
This design represents a sensitive yet modern interpretation of its setting—a low-impact, high-performance home that integrates seamlessly with its rural context.
