Last year, we began our journey toward becoming a carbon-neutral practice, supported by the Sustainability in Enterprise (SIE) Project Team at Nottingham Trent University. The Carbon Impact Assessment carried out by the SIE team was broken down into multiple phases to help Marsh:Grochowski reduce our environmental impact in a structured and achievable way.

Phase 1 focused on making small but effective improvements to our office. As the building is already well-insulated and fitted with low-energy equipment, we turned our attention to additional measures, including draught-proofing and installing heat reflectors behind our electric radiators. We also conducted an air tightness test to identify and seal areas of heat loss, helping us to heat the office more efficiently using less energy.

Phase 2 involved the installation of solar panels and a battery storage system. As our office operates entirely on electricity (with no gas supply), this step had a significant impact. In March, we installed a 3.4kW photovoltaic (PV) system along with a 10kW battery. During the recent sunny months, we’ve averaged over 90% off-grid energy use, with surplus energy being fed back into the national grid.

These are just the first steps in our long-term commitment to sustainability and minimising our environmental footprint. Sustainability has always been a core value at Marsh:Grochowski and is embedded in every project we undertake. Stay tuned for updates on our future phases.
