Following the viaduct’s reopening last year, Marsh:Grochowski have received planning approval for a new pedestrian and cycling link along the eastern side of the Grade II* listed structure. The approved plans also include a visitor centre and associated car park.

The design of the visitor centre draws inspiration from connected train carriages, with this concept expressed through a glazed linking element that visually and physically unites the building’s forms.

Corten steel has been selected as the primary material for the façade, echoing the industrial heritage and metalwork of the viaduct itself. Inside, the visitor centre will feature an education space for local schools, an exhibition area, a café, and toilet facilities — creating a welcoming and informative hub for the local community and visitors alike.
