A conversion and extension of an existing school building to form a new childrens centre. The existing building is clad in horizontal timbers to screen a new skin of insulation and hide the existing poor quality brickwork. New black brickwork provides a durable finish at ground level while render is used at upper levels. A circulation zone between new and existing buildings is naturally ventilated and illuminated by circular rooflights. The main entrance is signified by a parapet wall over the doorway, now enclosed and sheltered by the projecting roof.
