Whitemoor Children's Centre
This project involved the conversion and extension of an existing school building to create a new, welcoming Children’s Centre. The design enhances both function and appearance, transforming the outdated structure into a vibrant and energy-efficient facility.
To improve thermal performance and conceal the poor-quality original brickwork, the existing building has been wrapped in insulation and clad in horizontal timber slats. At ground level, new black brickwork offers a durable, modern finish, while the upper storey is rendered for a clean and contemporary look.
A new circulation zone connects the original building with the extension, naturally ventilated and illuminated by circular rooflights that bring daylight into the heart of the centre. The main entrance is clearly defined by a parapet wall above the doorway and is now enclosed and sheltered by a projecting roof, creating a safe and inviting arrival point for visitors and children alike.
