The Garden House

This new community centre sits adjacent to a John Carr Grade II* Listed museum and is carefully designed to complement its historic setting while delivering a highly sustainable, modern facility. The project includes a public garden, flexible meeting spaces, and offices for park rangers—serving both community and operational needs.

The building minimises its environmental impact through the use of low-energy, locally sourced materials and a suite of sustainable technologies. These include passive stack ventilation, zoned and buffered space design, light pipes, a green roof, rainwater harvesting, solar hot water, photovoltaics, and a biomass-fired heating system—making the centre a model for environmentally responsible public architecture.
