The work comprises of extensions to and the remodelling of a 1950’s traditional house on a street in Edwalton, Nottingham to create a 21st century family home. To the main street elevation, a monopitch, 2 storey extension to the east (with projecting dressing room window seat bay window) has been built which wraps around the existing building façade at ground floor level to create a new house entrance. The entrance lobby wall extends out of the building with a long, thin planter to draw people into the house and focus the attention on the main entrance. A new, 2 storey bay extension on the opposite end of the existing house acts as a counterweight to the monopitch extension and provides additional floor space to the existing living room and bedroom over.

To the rear, the monopitch extension again wraps around the existing house to form a single storey bay with folding doors leading onto a south facing terrace.

All new elements added to the building are finished in white render. The existing house brickwork remains exposed as does the existing tiled, pitched roof.

Internally a large living/ dining/kitchen area has been formed by connecting existing rooms and adding extensions.

This project shows that an original, traditional, fairly bland house can be upgraded to modern living by adding contemporary elements which envelop the house and create a new appearance, while at the same time allow for the introduction of a new insulated external fabric to meet current energy saving regulations.
